Cash Assistance Program for refugees

The Cash Assistance Program was intended for the most needy refugees from Ukraine, e.g. single parents, people with disabilities and chronically ill, seniors, pregnant women, as well as those who cannot work for various reasons. Beneficiaries received three-month financial support in the form of pre-paid payment cards. The amount of support depended on the size of the family. The advantage of this type of aid is also ensuring the subjectivity of the beneficiaries, who decide for themselves what they will use the received funds for.

Support points for registration to the program were run in various regions of Poland. The first stage of the program was carried out in the summer of 2022. In the autumn 2022, the so-called winter help was provided. The next stage was carried out in the spring and summer 2023. In 2022, nearly 20,000 people received support under the program (about 7,200 families or households). Over 16,000 of them later also received an one-off winterization assistance. In spring and summer 2023, the program covered over 7,500 people (over 2,600 families or households).

The program was implemented by Diaconia Poland and Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe in cooperation with local Lutheran parishes and local authorities.
