Help for Ukraine

Since 24 February 2022, a regular war has been going on in Ukraine, which has been militarily attacked by the Russian regime. This conflict has caused a huge refugee and humanitarian crisis. Millions of refugees fled the war to other countries, many of them to Poland. People who stayed in Ukraine face a direct threat to life and health, huge damage to the economy and infrastructure, and lack of access to many products. International agencies, governments, local governments and non-governmental organizations around the world face the challenge of supporting refugees, providing humanitarian aid to people remaining in Ukraine, as well as joining the process of rebuilding this country from war damage.

How Diaconia Poland supports Ukraine

Since the beginning of this invasion, Diaconia Poland has been carrying out aid activities for people affected by warfare. Many of them are held in cooperation with various partners – Diakonie Katastrophenhilfe and many other Polish and foreign diaconal and aid organizations, Lutheran and Reformed parishes, as well as local governments. Our initiatives are also supported by many private individuals.

Already on 24 February 2022, the president of the Diaconia Poland and the bishop of the Evangelical Church of the Augsburg Confession in Poland issued a joint appeal for donations to help Ukraine. “Living in peace and security is the right of every human being. Therefore, we cannot remain indifferent to what affects our neighbours. As Christians, we are called to show mercy to a person in need, to take active care and concrete actions,” they wrote (more about this appeal here).
